John Deacon, Queen.

John Deacon, the bassist for Queen, firmly believed that the band should not continue after Freddie Mercury's death. He famously stated, "As far as I'm concerned, it's over. There's no point in continuing. Replacing Freddie is impossible." Despite his strong feelings, Deacon rejoined Queen to complete their final album, "Made in Heaven," and participated in recording "No-One But You," the band's only single released without Mercury in 1997. His live appearances post-Mercury included the Mercury tribute concert in 1992, a fundraising event with Roger Taylor in Midhurst in 1993, and performing "The Show Must Go On" with Elton John at the opening of the Paris Ballet in 1997.

To maintain a low profile, Deacon reached an agreement with Brian May and Roger Taylor. This arrangement allowed them to use the Queen name and manage the band's activities, provided they consulted him on significant decisions, such as touring with Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert, releasing compilations, approving musicals, and the film "Bohemian Rhapsody." Roger Taylor once commented, "Most of the time he doesn't even respond. He just takes the checks."

Taylor also described Deacon as reclusive, saying, "We don't keep in touch because John is such a sociopath. He's given his blessing to what Brian and I can do with the Queen brand. And we've benefited a lot from that." Deacon lives off the proceeds from Queen's successful years and avoids the spotlight, preferring not to claim more credit than he believes he deserves or indulge in a lavish rock star lifestyle… (By Pop Rock Universe).
