Soprano Great Leontyne Price.
Soprano Great Leontyne Price, born February 10, 1927, was chosen to open the New Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center in 1966 as CLEOPATRA in the Samuel Barber/Gian Carlo Menotti production of "ANTONY and CLEOPATRA", staged by Franco Zeffirelli. The opera was not successful and has never again returned to the MET. Barber made significant changes to his score before his death making the opera more accessible to smaller companies, this revised version of the opera now used whenever "Antony and Cleopatra" is given a rare revival. Miss Price turned 97 years young in February of 2024… (By Rhett Kelbar).
