Just after the killing of Tucson, Arizona, and the frenzied analyses of journalists to review the political aspects of this human tragedy, it is sometimes difficult to remember what really happened. In particular, the accusations from all sides to find officials declined the incredible acts of bravery that took place, when human beings humans are dedicated to help other beings humans, at the risk of their lives.
During this day, there were heroes by tens; men and women who began in danger to protect others, to help and bring assistance.
Most of the time, the heroes remain anonymous because they are not interviewed by news agencies. There is little too emotionally withdraw from these acts of bravery, because often these heroes gave their lives for the future. It then passes to the following story: “Yes, tell us what you thought when you run under the sound of bullets? ''
Dorwin Stoddard, a husband of 76 years - when the shooting started - threw himself to the ground to protect his wife (married for 16 years), who was hit three times in the leg. On the lists of victims of this carnage, journalist reported that the couple was known to the elementary school in Tucson. He died of a bullet head.
The reaction of Dorwin Stoddard might seem incongruous in the eyes of those who support the modern approach of man/woman relationships. The wedding? What a weird idea. This is still practiced? Apparently not, if you look at the continuous increase of concubinage and divorce rate which destroyed near a wedding on two.
We just see a love story of an incredible intensity. But she was drowned in the debates, recriminations and accusations of political order. Shame to scientific experts. Shame on policies. Shame on the journalism.
A 76-year-old man died in the arms of his wife, whom he has protected the shots of a madman. A woman, wounded by three bullets in the leg, was in the arms of the man who died to save her life. How do not think about the words spoken by a young man, some 2000 years earlier? "There is no greater love than to give his life for his friends" (John 15:13).
Generally, we tend to think of our own needs. We take care of our personal desires. We cater to what makes us happy. But from the moment where we become "one flesh" in the eyes of God, we must learn to think differently - to consider first and foremost the needs and desires of our spouse, how to take care of our 'half '! This requires reflection, of the Organization, of self-discipline and understanding to give of oneself. This is the basis of marriage!
Dorwin Stoddard showed us what "to give of one-self" meant. He was not thinking of him; He first thought of what he considered being the most important in his life - his wife - and he took care of his 'half '.
